Exercise

Getting regular exercise is very beneficial for your health.  And you don’t have to spend extra money buying expensive equipment or joining a gym. Plus, you can start with something you are already doing. You can walk.

Walking

To help motivate you, you can enlist the help of a walking buddy. You can check if a family member or friend would like to join you in your quest to achieve better health and fitness by walking.  You can walk in the local park or at the mall. You can even walk at home while listening/watching an inspiring CD/DVD.

You can get special walking shoes at a local clothing or sport’s store.  If not available in your area you can check out The Walking Company’s website. They guarantee that they have the best price. Wherever you get your walking shoes from, make sure it’s comfortable and has plenty of support for your feet.

There are other forms of exercise that you can do, such as hiking,  bike riding, and swimming. Choose an exercise activity that you will enjoy doing and want to stick with.

Hiking

Hiking is a more intensive form of walking. It requires special apparel and shoes. But it’s also fun and rewarding. When I took a backpacking class our teacher taught us to get in shape before our final exam (hiking up a mountain and staying there for a weekend). For times when the weather won’t permit you to exercise outside you can get a treadmill (to walk indoors) or a stair climber (to “hike” indoors). In addition, you can get an elliptical machine. Whichever one you’d prefer. You can find them at your local sporting goods store.

During inclement weather, you can exercise on a stationary bicycle. You can find one at your local sporting goods store.

You can check for them at your local sporting goods store. Your local Walmart may also have them. If not available locally then you can order them online.

One so-called exercise I do not recommend is yoga. Yogis from India admit that it is not for exercise. It’s a Hindu practice to yoke with the pagan god Brahma, to die.
