Trust in God The Great Physician

“He sent His Word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.” (Psalm 107:20)

Research has proven that having faith in God can also benefit your health. Two key principles to building up your faith to receive healing from the Lord are:

  1. Spend an hour every day reading the Bible and praying.

According to James 5:15, “the prayer of faith shall save the sick…” And Romans 10:17 says, “faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” According to Strong’s Concordance of the Bible, hearing in this verse refers to more than just physical hearing of God’s Word.  It includes hearing, understanding, and applying God’s Word to our lives.

The Bible contains numerous verses about medical matters and healing from ailments.  One such verse refers to Jesus’ healing ministry.

“And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. And His fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto Him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and He healed them.” (Matthew 4: 23-24)

Other Bible verses that refer to physical/medical matters include:

Genesis 1:29 (garden of Eden diet)

Exodus 15:26

Exodus 23: 20-25

2 Kings 5:1-14

2 Kings 20:1-17

2 Chronicles 16:12-14

Psalm 103:1-3

Proverbs 3:5-8, 21-24

Proverbs 4:20-22

Proverbs 12:18

Proverbs 13:17

Proverbs 14:30

James 5:14-16

In addition to the above, there are numerous other verses that tell of the miraculous power of the Lord to heal people supernaturally. The book All the Miracles of the Bible by Herbert Lockyer outlines them.  You can read through them and become renewed and strengthened in your faith.

  1. The other component of faith that is advocated is to have an attitude of gratitude. We should be grateful for all of God’s blessings. “Oh, that men would praise the LORD for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men!” (Psalm 107:8)

Rather than focusing on what’s wrong in our lives, we should think about what’s right. Count your blessings and thank God for them.  Reasons to thank God include for food to eat, water to drink, clothes to wear, shelter to live in, indoor plumbing in the shelter, family, friends, life, et cetera.  All of these are blessings from God.  The Bible says, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”  (James 1:17) All the good things in your life are gifts to you from God. It’s His expression of love to you.  Of course, the greatest gift He ever gave us is Jesus.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” (John 3:16-17)

Expressing our gratitude towards God is also a faith builder in that it reminds us of God’s care and faithfulness. He has helped us in the past.  He is able and willing to help us in the present and future.

“NOW unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.”  (Ephesians 3:20-21)

“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon Him; for He cometh for you.” (1 Peter 5:6-7)

Reginald Cherry, MD expounds on how prayer to God aids in the healing process in his book Healing Prayer: Gods Divine Intervention in Medicine, Faith, and Prayer.

“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” (3 John 2)
