Healthy Beverages

Juicing

George Malkmus overcame colon cancer and other health problems through totally natural means back in the 1970s.  Since then he has helped scores of people through the organization he founded called Hallelujah Acres.  People have defeated diseases such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, et cetera by following the Hallelujah Acres health plan.  George Malkmus has explained that one of the main keys that have given them the success rate that they have is juicing.  Drinking vegetable juice allows the nutrients to reach the cellular level faster than when you eat them.  Plus, you can drink more vegetables than you can eat.

Drinking three juices a day before each meal is a good way to help maintain good health.  However, if you have a serious health problem then I recommend that you double it.  Drink two juices before each meal or drink additional juice between meals.  If you can’t afford a juicer at this time or you don’t have the time to juice, then you can use a vegetable powder drink mix.  Hallelujah Acres has top-notch organic juice powders, however, they are quite expensive. They are well worth it if you can afford it. A more affordable and tasty brand that I enjoy is Country Farms.  Their products are also non-gmo and organic.

The one thing Country Farms doesn’t have is carrot juice powder.  Carrot Juice was a major factor in helping people to recover after starting the Hallelujah Acres health plan.  Thankfully another more affordable vegetable powder drink company called Green Foods does have organic carrot juice powder.  And like Country Farms their products are also organic and non-gmo.

If you’re like me and you would also like a book in your hands to refer to that has over 300 recipes then check out The Juicing Bible by Pat Crocker.

Fresh vegetable juices are the best. However, if pressed for time or if you don’t have the vegetable or vegetable juice powders to use, a nice alternative are juices made by Bolthouse Farms. Their flavors include carrots, daily greens, and berries and green veggies. They also make protein plus beverages. My absolute favorite is Protein Plus Vanilla. Yum!

Smoothies

Smoothies are not as effective as juicing because it takes longer for the nutrients to reach the cells.  Yet smoothies can provide additional nutrition to your diet.  And they are definitely far better than a lot of other beverages, such as sugary soft drinks.  So for a delicious and nutritious treat, I think smoothies are great.

Herbal Teas

Herbal teas are helpful and delightful.  They can give your health a boost and also taste great, especially when you add a packet of the all-natural, sugar substitute stevia.  A number of companies are now dedicated to making herbal teas.  I especially love teas by Bigelow and Traditional Medicinals.

Bigelow has caffeine free, decaffeinated, and some caffeinated teas.  I prefer caffeine free or decaffeinated because caffeine tends to make my heart race.  Two of my absolute favorites are Lemon Lift Decaf and I Love Lemon.  With a packet of stevia, they taste like lemon pie to me.

I also love their Mint Medley tea, which is a refreshing blend of spearmint and peppermint.  They also have great gifts for tea lovers, such as the Bigelow Seasonal Tea Gift Box, which has Apple Cider, Pumpkin Spice, Ginger Snappish, Peppermint Bark, and Eggnogg’n.  Bigelow teas are probably available at your local supermarket.  To learn more about Bigelow teas please see their website here.

Very interesting insight about the Bigelow tea company:

Traditional Medicinals makes all-natural organic herbals teas.  They make a number of teas that are beneficial for your health, including Ginger Aid, Throat Coat, and Breathe Easy. I really appreciate their Throat Coat, Ginger Aid, and Dandelion teas.  Another thing I love about their teas is that they have inspirational quotes on the tea bag string.  It’s like having a pick me up for both the body and the soul.  In addition to teas, they also have a tea buddy that covers the cup while the tea is steeping.  Their herbalist recommends it to safeguard the benefits of the tea.  Their teas are also sold at local supermarkets.  To learn more about Traditional Medicinals please visit their website here.

Coffee Substitutes
I love the smell of coffee and growing up I enjoyed eating coffee ice cream.  However, coffee doesn’t love me.  To be more precise caffeine doesn’t love me.  It causes my heart to beat too fast.  Plus, caffeine is a diuretic that causes the body to release water, which is counterproductive to wanting to drink up to eight glasses of water a day.  I do like to sometimes drink naturally decaf coffee.  Yet I have found something I enjoy even better: coffee substitutes.
There are a variety of different substitutes, such as Postum, Pero, Roma, and Teeccino.  However, my absolute favorite is Cafix All-Natural Instant Beverage. It’s delicious when you add stevia and  Silk Creamer.  And during the holidays adding great tasting Silk Nog has always been extra special.  Although I like Cafix you may prefer a different brand.  To learn more about the different types of coffee substitutes.  You can try them out and see which one is your favorite.  If they are not available at your local supermarket then check and see if your local health food store has them.  You can also find them online through discount supplement stores.  So far Vitacost has been the most affordable one that I found.
